Want to be the smartest marketer in the room, in your office, in your company? I’m going to show you how to do just that. Are you skeptical? I can see why you would be.
Three things make this really difficult:
- In-Depth Topic: Digital marketing is one of those fields that has a wide range of in-depth topics that at their core are pulled directly from the sciences.
- Rapid Industry Changes: While the core principles of marketing have been the same for decades, the specific techniques and technologies that work can change incredibly fast.
- Unqualified “Gurus”: To make learning even more difficult, you have to sort through the never-ending stream of gurus and scams trying to sell you their NEW BREAKTHROUGH SYSTEM.
The problem with learning digital marketing
These 3 problems aren’t just isolated to staying up to date with current marketing techniques and technologies, it also makes it difficult for colleges and universities who are working to create modern marketing programs and degrees.
Whether you have a background in marketing, a formal marketing education or are a small business owner trying to figure it out, it can be challenging sorting through all of the information and staying up to date with the current techniques and technologies.
What makes it even worse
If those challenges weren’t enough, you also have to sort through the unending stream of opposing thoughts, directions, and strategies. Some of this confusion is because the people presenting it are completely uninformed but most of it is because of people spreading their version of outdated information.
So, how do you find the right information and stay up to date?
There is an easy solution
Our company is passionate about learning. In an industry that changes this quickly, you have to be passionate about continuous learning to provide the best services to clients.
In fact, it’s a part of our core values.

For me personally, finding the solution took a lot of trial and error (and a fair amount of money.) So, how do you sort through all the information and gurus selling their systems?
Community!
You need people who are in the marketing trenches to help you navigate all of it. Marketing agencies need to be more involved in education and training and less worried about the competition stealing their secret sauce. THERE IS NO SECRET SAUCE!
Where do you find the right community?
We looked. We looked everywhere and there are some good online groups and lots of great blogs but none that I would recommend 100% to friends or family. (That’s the real test, isn’t it?)
The information needs to be sorted through to find the best nuggets.
So, that’s exactly what we decided to do.
Internally, we go through hundreds and sometimes thousands of articles every week to find the best marketing articles and topics.
We’re going to put our top picks each week in a newsletter.
Is this enough to fix the problem of staying up to date with marketing techniques and technology? No. But it’s a start.
In light of the changes COVID-19 has caused in the business community, we revisited our core values to determine what responsibilities marketers have during all of this.
We believe digital agencies have a responsibility to help businesses grow and to do that responsibly, we need to be more involved in teaching our local communities. Especially and specifically those that aren’t quite ready to hire an agency.
We have several things planned to help our local businesses and we’ll be announcing them over the coming months. But in the meantime, sign up for our newsletter and let us be the digital compass that keeps your marketing from getting lost.
